How to invest in 2022 🔮
Happy Friday everyone,
I hope that despite the big swings in crypto and stock markets, you’re keeping your head cool.
If you aren’t, make sure to re-read this:
Today, however, I want us to look forward.
I don’t have to tell you that the next decade will look drastically different from the last one.
But what most people don’t realize is HOW different it will be.
To put it in perspective - the first manned flight and our first ascend to the moon were just 66 years apart:
That’s 66 years between getting the first flight into the air and then LANDING ON THE MOON!
Damn. For 300,000 years, Homo Sapiens just wandered across the vast plains. And now we’re about to be a space-faring multi-planetary species.
We take these things for granted, but it amazes me every time.
This reminds me of my favorite graph ever:
The greatest shortcoming of the human race is our inability to understand the exponential function.
And progress is exponential.
Over the next decade, advances in technology will outpace anything we’ve ever seen in human history.
Crypto, for example, went from the dark corners of the Internet to a $2 TRILLION asset in 10 years - the fastest growth of any asset in history.
In the process, it minted the world’s richest 29-year-old who went from 0 to $22.5 billion in just 4 years:
Peak performance in the 21st century.
By the way, crypto is just getting started. What if you could own your data and rent it to Facebook… and get paid? That’s just the tip of the iceberg of what’s coming.
Governments will start buying bitcoin, the way kings and queens bought gold for thousands of years.
(and then build Bitcoin Cities… like this one in El Salvador:)
Of course, it will displace financial institutions and global tech behemoths of all kinds - so be prepared for change.
But crypto’s not the only force racing ahead.
Before long, advances in biotechnology will drastically expand the lifespan of most people on the planet.
We’ll live longer, better, healthier lives.
What if 80 was the new 50?
Robots, too, will make their grand foray out of the industrial world and into our homes.
Just like everyone has a smartphone today, soon enough, everyone will have a robot making stuff for them:
(there are no special effects here… just the latest advances in robotics).
So if you’re thinking that the world is falling apart - it really isn’t.
On nearly every single metric, the world gets better, healthier, freer, and more creative every year.
You can’t see that if you watch and read traditional media because media companies aren’t incentivized to bring truth. Instead, they’re optimized for outrage, paranoia, clicks and attention.
But the world is changing faster than ever - and for the better. Countries and institutions rise and fall, and entrepreneurs and investors who position themselves well thrive.
To invest well, we need to leave our biases at the door and try and understand where the world is going.
That means embracing uncomfortable truths, even if we don’t agree with them.
Because only when we accept reality can we start to find our place in it.
I’ll post this graph here once again, just because:
So what am I investing in, in 2022?
Crypto, startup cities, robotics, space, longevity - and the countries that make it happen.
I’ll break down each of these in the coming year, step-by-step.
You’ll likely hear from me again before 2022, but if you don’t - it’s been a pleasure to have you along the ride this year.
Enjoy the rest of December.
